How to Install Node js ?

How to Install Node js On Windows

Follow below instructions for setting up Node.js  and XAMPP so that you can run apps made with them. We have assumes that you are running this in a Windows environment.

Download and install Node.js Windows Installer (.msi files) from Download Here

Download the 32bit version if you have less than (4GB memory or 64bit system) else you can download 64 bit.
Accept the license agreement and choose one option

There are four option to install NodeJs

  1. Nodejs runtime
  2. Npm package Manager
  3. online docummentation shortcut
  4. Add to path

Choose Npm package Manager or Nodejs runtime
click the NEXT button a bunch of times and accept the default installation settings.
Restart your computer. You won’t be able to run Node.js® until you restart your computer.

Now you need to add Nodejs to system path.

  1. Hold Windows key and press Pause (OR Right click on My computer > Click Properties)
  2. Click Advanced System Settings.
  3. Click Environment Variables.
  4. Append ;C:\Program Files\nodejs\ to the Path variable (If it doesn’t exist, add a new one called Path and add C:\Program Files\nodejs\)

    Note: C:\Program Files\nodejs\ should be where you installed Node.js(Path of youe nodejs directory)


How to check Node and NPM installed by running simple commands to see what version of each is installed:

Test Node: To see if Node is installed, open the Windows Command Prompt and type
    node -v.
    This should print a version number, so you’ll see something like this v0.10.35.

Test NPM: To see if NPM is installed,
    type npm -v
    This should print NPM’s version number so you’ll see something like this 1.4.28
